SAMARITAN SOCIAL SERVICES

Compassionate people, including students, are invited to accept the privilege of serving Christ ( Matthew 25: 31-40) and our neighbors.  Participation will demonstrate love, provide hope and show sensitivity to those in need, it will also help reduce the related despair depression and discouragement some individuals and families suffer during prolonged economic reversals in their lives.

The Samaritan program is a local, faith based, non-profit 501(c) (3) organization, founded by Pastor Jesse D. McKinney, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  Its’ main purpose is to serve the urban poor in the San Bernardino and Muscoy areas of Southern California.

Since its founding in 1985, the services formerly offered to the community included a homeless shelter, Thrift Store, a Christian Academy, counseling services, and food assistance.  The food program continues with the help of volunteers, the culinary skills, commitment and energy of the Pastor's wife, Missionary Mary McKinney.

Mary McKinney is the author of a cookbook entitled, “Soul to Soul”.   Its’ recipes are prepared by the kitchen staff at the facility.  The recipes are creative, and include nutritionally sound ingredients, that are delicious, as well.

There is a growing and persistent need for food.  This need is reflected in the Samaritan’s food giveaway each Thursday afternoon at 5 o’clock pm; the line goes on and on.
